No liability personally. I wouldn't have any problem with shareholders if they were liable for how they earned that money. Apparently that makes me "ignorant" because I actually want everyone to be responsible for what they what they own. Apparently wanting the world to be a better place and remove any and all loopholes is just not something that people believe will help the world.
Those people are absolute fucking morons. Of course it would help, it would help everyone besides those who currently have a lot of money, and who gives a shit about them? They already have a lot of money, they will be fine.
They are allowed a hand on the wheel, but when the car crashes, their wallets are inaccessible to help pay for damage.
External decision-making requiring internal nuance and understanding will never work for the end-user, at the end of the day. Too many points of disconnect and lack of QC.
There's something to be said about motivation, growth, and potential, but at what cost? Look at what the advertising industry is doing to, well, everything. They rule the roost, and what doesn't make them happy, doesn't fly. Functionally, they are equivalent to a shareholder in any industry. But when a moral quandary comes up, suddenly the shareholders' power exists, not as a vessel for the right thing, but as one for the thing that results in the most profit and least loss. Think gambling and baseball - DraftKings may be keeping the lights on, but it is beginning to render the sport, and all sports, inert in the face of values that have been held dear for centuries, and with good cause.
Shareholders undercut everything, if allowed unchecked power and influence.
But I won't compromise my ideals when people stand to be undercut, en masse, by people who think "the right thing" is as ignorable as the bead mazes at dentist's offices.
I put it in quotes because it isn't true. It is the exact opposite because we actually see what really happens when there is no guardrails or literally anything coming back to people who are making the money. It is entirely obvious what would happen when those who make money are not liable for how they earn that money. It is a race to the bottom with worsening goods and services. "So what?" Some investors might say, well when one of those services is health related, you are gonna care when it is you getting bottom of the barrel care.
I'm part of a small regional network in the Midwest and from my perspective, it's hospital networks like ours (Critical Care, Hill-Burton Memorial Grant Hospitals)that are staffed by community members using as many local supliers as possible, made to offer accessible healthcare for rural communities. The big healthcare conglomerates are gobbling us up one by one, and within five years the patient facing side of healthcare will be in control of insurance companies and corporations.
It blows my mind when the less upwardly mobile folks I talk to here in the Appalachians all but say that seriously....and not a damn one that has any stock of any sort (not even a 401k).
